Kenechukwu Umelo
Technical Gameplay Designer
ABOUT ME
I am a Game Designer with three years of professional experience working in VR engineering-focused roles for tech start-ups such as King Crow Studios and Lucid Dream.
I am actively seeking an entry-level position in the games industry.
I specialize in technical design, AI behaviors, and game systems, focusing on interactive mechanics, establishing replayability, and prototyping side content. Passionate about game AI architectures, I aim to design systemic systems and emergent gameplay for combative and non-combative NPCs. I also thrive on creating activities and innovative content for games, encouraging players to connect with the game worlds beyond the storytelling. With strong technical documentation, design tools development, and rapid prototyping skills, I can execute ideas, or concepts to test in-engine with the minimum assets provided, such as geometric shapes, to show off in test maps or gym scenes for early feedback.
I am constantly fueled to adapt to new knowledge of game engines, programming languages, and the latest trends. One key lesson I've learned in my journey is the value of communication and collaboration, which continuously pushes me to improve and hone my skills to provide quality technical and design contributions to the team and project I work with. I am committed to delivering eventful gameplay experiences for others to enjoy.
Beyond game development, I enjoy cooking and baking, hanging out with friends, staying active with fitness, and exploring eSports bars or classic game stores. I actively participate in the fight game community and spend time watching anime or binging Food Network's Chopped marathons.

More About Me
My Favorite Games
These games, either from past or today's times played a SIGNIFICANT ROLE in being why I chose games as my career at an early age and even still now. They taught me the fundamentals of game design and inspired player engagement, story-telling, iteration, replayable game loops, and exploration.
However...........
When I was 8 years old, my father brought home a copy of Jak 2 for PlayStation 2. The game's narrative, open world, characters, and combat immediately brought me into the realm of game design. I spent hours playing to the point where I replayed the story over 30+ times from back then to get a deeper perspective into what makes the game so good. One day I accidentally opened the hidden debug mode in the game for the first time, and messing with it lit that spark in my curiosity for game development. Through experimentation with Jak 2's debug mode, I determined my career field right there at an early age and never looked back since then. I vowed to deliver the same experience I gained from Jak 2 to any project I worked on.
So if I am ever asked what my ALL-TIME favorite game is?
Jak 2 will always be the answer!
